What is card stock and how is it measured for business cards?

Most business cards are printed on card stock. Card stock is available in a number sizes and weights but unlike other types of paper, card stock can be measured in thickness or points (pts). A 12 pt card stock is .012 inches thick. Comparatively speaking, a 15 pt card stock is about half  as thick as a credit card. The larger the pts, the thicker the card stock.
